An Activated Carbon Filter (ACF) is a pressure filter filled with granular activated carbon. It receives clarified water — usually after a Multi-Grade Filter (MGF) — and adsorbs free chlorine, organic molecules, colour and odour, without interference from suspended solids.
Applications
- Dechlorination before RO membranes and ion-exchange resins
- Removal of colour, odour and taste in drinking and process water
- Tertiary treatment of treated sewage and effluent before reuse
- Food & beverage, pharmaceutical, hotel and commercial projects
How it works
Activated carbon has a very large internal surface area. As water passes through the bed, chlorine and dissolved organic compounds are held on this surface. The bed is backwashed periodically to remove trapped particles, and the carbon is replaced when its adsorption capacity is used up.
Construction
- FRP or MS (epoxy-painted or rubber-lined) pressure vessels
- Granular activated carbon on a graded support bed
- Manual multiport valve, valve nest or automatic operation
Our engineers size each ACF on your flow rate and water analysis, and can supply it with an MGF as a complete filtration package.
