MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) is a biological wastewater treatment process in which plastic carrier media move freely inside an aeration tank. Bacteria grow as a biofilm on the media and break down organic pollutants (BOD and COD) in sewage or industrial effluent. Abhay Enviro Engineering designs MBBR-based STPs and ETPs for new projects as well as for upgrading existing plants.
Applications
- Sewage treatment plants for residential societies, hotels, hospitals, schools and commercial buildings
- Industrial effluent from food processing, dairies, textiles and other biodegradable streams
- Capacity upgrade of an existing activated-sludge plant without new civil tanks
Process flow
A typical MBBR plant includes a bar screen, oil & grease trap (where needed), equalisation tank, MBBR reactor with diffused aeration, tube-settler or clarifier, filtration (pressure sand and activated carbon filters) and disinfection. Treated water can be reused for gardening and flushing.
Benefits
- Compact footprint — suitable for basements and space-constrained sites
- Handles variations in load better than many conventional systems
- No sludge recirculation required, which keeps operation simple
- Can be supplied as civil, MS or FRP construction
Our team sizes each MBBR plant on the actual flow and inlet characteristics of your site, and supports it with operation and maintenance contracts after handover.
