A Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant is a complete treatment scheme in which no liquid effluent leaves the site. Wastewater is treated and recycled, and the remaining concentrated stream is evaporated so that only solids remain for safe disposal. Abhay Enviro Engineering designs and integrates each stage of a ZLD system.
Typical ZLD scheme
- Effluent treatment – physico-chemical and biological treatment in an ETP
- Tertiary treatment – filtration and ultrafiltration to prepare water for RO
- RO recycling – an RO plant recovers clean water for reuse in the process
- Evaporation – a Multi Effect Evaporator (MEE) concentrates the RO reject
- Drying – an agitated thin-film dryer or similar system converts the concentrate into solids
Who needs ZLD
ZLD is commonly required by pollution control boards for industries such as textiles and dyeing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, distilleries and tanneries, especially in water-stressed areas.
Benefits
- Meets ZLD conditions in consent-to-operate approvals
- Recovers a large share of water for reuse, reducing fresh-water intake
- Reduces the risk of non-compliance and penalties
Every ZLD scheme depends on the effluent analysis and volume. Share your details and our engineers will propose a suitable combination of treatment stages.
